Ik verzamel sinds de jaren tachtig cocktails die in films te zien zijn. Rond 1933 vielen twee dingen samen; H et einde van Prohibition en Hollywood met het uitbrengen van 'talkies' (films waar je de acteurs kon horen praten). Greta Garbo was een enorme stille filmster in de jaren twintig en maakte in 1930 de overstap van haar talkiefilm. Haar fans waren erg enthousiast om haar stem voor het eerst te horen, en het marketingteam stookte het vuur op door reclame te maken voor het evenement met de slogan "Garbo Talks!" Bovendien, wat waren haar eerste woorden, vraag je? "Geef me een whisky, ginger ale ernaast."
Het is informatief om te weten dat de eerste keer dat vrouwen werden toegelaten in de grote zaal van bars (en niet alleen de kleine "Ladies' Bar" voor prominente vrouwen) in de jaren 1920 tijdens de Drooglegging was. Voor die tijd mocht een vrouw alleen in de grote bar als ze prostituee of mevrouw was. Daarom was de eerste barervaring van de meeste Amerikaanse vrouwen tussen 1920 en 1933 in illegale, geheime bars. De combinatie van Amerikaanse vrouwen die sociaal mochten drinken en de geavanceerde technologie van Hollywood zorgde voor een glamourisering van de cocktail.
Tijdens het tijdperk van de stomme film waren er tal van opzuigende scènes, vooral in Charlie Chaplin-films. Tijdens het Amerikaanse verbod speelden drinkscènes zich eenvoudig af in landen die niet in het verbod waren. A Horse's Neck wordt besteld in de film Caught in a Cabaret uit 1914, een Whiskey and Soda wordt gemaakt in de film The Idle Class uit 1917 en Manhattans zijn dronken in de film Manhattan uit 1928.
Er moet een film van dertig seconden worden genoemd. Het was een reclamefilm met de titel DeWar's - It's Scotch, en werd in 1898 op een muur op Herald Square in New York City geprojecteerd. Het is de eerste reclamespot voor geesten die op film verschijnt.

Cock of the Air
Matt Moore wordt gezien terwijl hij een tafel vol martini's drinkt.
Grand Hotel
Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo en John Barrymore bestellen en drinken absint in een Berlijnse bar. In het Grand Hotel probeert een man Joan Crawford een Louisiana Flip te laten bestellen, maar zij bestelt absint. De man zegt acht keer 'Louisiana Flip'. Whisky wordt ook genoemd.
Het oude donkere huis
Ernest Thesiger biedt een gast een drankje aan en zegt: 'Het is maar gin, je weet wel gin. . . Ik hou van jenever!”

Moord op de ijdelheden
Manhattans worden gebruikt als rekwisieten tijdens een toneelvoorstelling.
De dunne man
William Powell en Myrna Loy drinken Knickerbockers, en er is een scène waarin Powell de barmannen advies geeft over het maken van drankjes. Hij zegt: “Het belangrijkste is het ritme. Zorg altijd voor ritme in je schudden. Nu, een Manhattan die je schudt tot foxtrot-tijd; een Bronx, naar tijd in twee stappen; een droge Martini die je altijd schudt om de tijd te walsen.”
Hij zegt ook tegen Nora: "Dit worden zes martini's." Nora zegt tegen de ober: 'Goed. Wil je me nog vijf martini's brengen, Leo, en ze hier op een rij zetten.' Rogge whisky wordt ook genoemd.

De Moulin Rouge is een nachtclub in Parijs, dus er wordt veel gedronken. Jose Ferrer speelt de beroemde Franse schilder Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, die gratis cognac en drankjes krijgt in ruil voor het schilderen van posters.

Lana Turner schenkt zichzelf whisky in.

Simmons: Wat heb je besteld?
Brando: Dulce de Leche. Dulce is het Spaanse woord voor 'zoet'. De betekent "van" en leche betekent "melk". Zoet van melk.
Simmons: Serveren ze het niet gewoon?
Brando: Nou ja, alleen 's ochtends. Het heeft te maken met de warmte. 'S Nachts deden ze er een soort conserveermiddel in.
Simmons: Dat is interessant. Wat gebruiken ze?
Brando: Bacardi.
Simmons: Zit daar geen alcohol in?
Brando: Nou, net genoeg om te voorkomen dat de melk zuur wordt.
Als Simmons aan haar tweede drankje zit, zegt ze: 'Het is zo lekker. Dat Bacardi- aroma maakt zeker een verschil. Weet je, dit zou een geweldige manier zijn om kinderen melk te laten drinken.”
De zevenjarige jeuk
Tom Ewell nodigt Marilyn Monroe uit voor een drankje in zijn appartement omdat zij geen airconditioning heeft en hij wel. Als ze arriveert, biedt hij haar aan om wat te drinken voor haar te maken.
Monroe: Heb je gin?
Ewel: Natuurlijk. Je bedoelt pure gin?
Monroe: Nee, gin en frisdrank, denk ik.
Ewell: Gin en frisdrank?
Monroe: Dat is fout. Hoe drink je jenever?
Ewell: Er is gin-tonic en gin en vermout, dat is een Martini.
Monroe: Dat klinkt cool. Daar drink ik een glas van. Een grote, lange.
Ewell: Grote, lange Martini. (Hij krijgt er een voor haar.) Nou, hier ben je dan. Grote, lange Martini.
Monroe: bedankt.
Ewel: Graag gedaan.
Monroe: Heel goed. Misschien heeft het wat meer suiker nodig.
Ewell: Ik zou het ten zeerste afraden om suiker in een Martini te doen.
Monroe: Zou je dat doen? Waarom?
Ewel: Nou. . . Geloof me. Geen suiker in een Martini.
Monroe: Thuis deden ze suiker in martini's.
Ewel: Terug naar huis? Waar?
Monroe: Denver, Colorado.
Andere regels in de film zijn onder meer:

1958
Tante Mame
De tweede scène van de film is een cocktailparty, en tante Mame (Rosalind Russell) daalt de trap af en vertelt hoe iemand op weg is met een liter jenever. Dit komt omdat de film begint in het Prohibition-jaar 1928 (het beslaat zo'n twintig jaar), en er worden veel cocktails gezien.
De ochtend na het feest vraagt Mame haar neef Patrick om de butler te vragen haar een licht ontbijt met zwarte koffie en een zijspan te brengen. Patrick is pas twaalf jaar en maakt een martini voor een bezoekende gast. Hij vraagt de gast of hij het droog of extra droog wil. Er is een complete scène waarin Patrick (Jan Handzlik) de gin in een glazen kan giet en de man leert: "Roeren, nooit schudden - het vermorzelt de gin." Patrick wervelt vervolgens vermout rond in een martini-glas, schenkt het uit en schenkt dan de geroerde gin in het glas. Hij serveert het zonder olijf, maar vraagt: “Wil je een olijf? Tante Mame zegt dat het te veel ruimte in beslag neemt in de drank.'
Andere drankjes die in de film worden gezien en genoemd, zijn Mint Juleps, Drambuie en Cognac. Er is ook een scène waarin Mame een speciale cocktail serveert , genaamd "the Flaming Mame", die wordt geserveerd in een groot, kegelvormig metalen glas met een steel en de drank in brand gestoken. Het is een grap die ze met haar gasten uithaalt om hen terug te betalen voor het serveren van haar slechte cocktails bij hen thuis.

Blauwe Hawaï
Verschillende tropische bedwelmende plengoffers zijn te zien in de film, maar slechts één wordt genoemd en gezien. De Mai Tai. Trays Mai Tais worden rondgedeeld op een feestje en er is zelfs een barman te zien die de bovenkant van een Mai Tai overloopt met gouden rum.
Ontbijt bij Tiffany's Er wordt gedurende de hele film gedronken en er is een groot feest in het appartement van Audrey. Audrey Hepburn drinkt een Planter's Punch en schenkt zichzelf melk in een cocktailglas. George Peppard drinkt whisky.
Kom in september
Deze film met in de hoofdrollen Rock Hudson, Bobby Darin en Sandra Dee was de allereerste film die werd vertoond op transcontinentale en intercontinentale vluchten. Rock Hudson drinkt veel champagne en er is zelfs een scène met een vogel die op de rand van een glas zit en dronken wordt uit champagne. In één scène drinkt Rock een martini als ontbijt. De dienaar vraagt hem of hij nog iets anders wil en Rock antwoordt: "een olijf". De beste scène is wanneer Rock de bar neigt en Bobby Darin en zijn vrienden cognac serveert.

Jack Lemmon bestelt Lee Remick een Brandy Alexander.
The Hustler
Er zijn veel drinkscènes. Een fles JTS Brown Bourbon-whisky (gemaakt door Heaven Hill) wordt gezien wanneer Paul Newman een 25 uur durende poolwedstrijd speelt tegen Minnesota Fats. Hij drinkt de hele fles leeg.

James Bond bestelt een Wodka Martini Shake, Not Stired, en zet de verkoop van wodka in Amerika op gang. De Vodka Martini gaat viraal.

Van Rusland met liefde
Sean Connery heeft een Martini.
Plezier in Acapulco
Elvis Presley en Ursula Andress (haar personage heet Marguerita) drinken bier, Tequila en Margaritas. Ze drinken de tequilashots met zout en limoenen. Elvis zingt Bossa Nova in een nachtclub en een deel van de tekst zegt: "... ik zei hey kleine mama, laten we gaan zitten, iets drinken en de band opgraven, ze zei drink drink drink oh fiddlely-dink, ik kan dansen met een drankje in mijn hand..." Dit is eigenlijk een van mijn favoriete Elvis-filmsonguitvoeringen. Elvis zingt ook een liedje getiteld Marguerita . In een andere scène vult Elvis een rietje met een drankje bij het zwembad en laat het op de buik van een vrouwelijke zonnebader vallen.

Jim Backus bestuurt een vliegtuig en verlaat de besturing om een ouderwetse mix te maken.
De nootachtige professor
Jerry Lewis speelt Buddy Love en bestelt een Alaskan Polar Bear Heater aan de bar. Hij moet de barman de ingrediënten geven: “Twee shots wodka, een beetje rum, wat bitters, een vleugje azijn, een shot vermouth, een shot gin, een beetje cognac, een citroenschil, een sinaasappelschil, een kers en nog wat Scotch. Nu lekker mixen en dan in een hoog glas schenken.”
