Seit den 1980er Jahren sammle ich Cocktails aus Filmen. Um 1933 fielen zwei Dinge zusammen; Das Ende der Prohibition und Hollywoods Veröffentlichung von „Talkies“ (Filme, in denen man die Schauspieler sprechen hören konnte). Greta Garbo war in den 1920er Jahren ein großer Stummfilmstar und wechselte 1930 zum Tonfilm. Ihre Fans waren sehr aufgeregt, ihre Stimme zum ersten Mal zu hören, und das Marketingteam schürte das Feuer, indem es die Veranstaltung mit dem Schlagwort „Garbo Talks!“ bewarb . Außerdem, was waren ihre ersten Worte, fragen Sie? „Gib mir einen Whiskey, Ginger Ale dazu.“

Es ist aufschlussreich zu wissen, dass das erste Mal, dass Frauen in den Hauptraum von Bars (und nicht nur die kleine „Ladies' Bar“ für prominente Frauen) in den 1920er Jahren während der Prohibition zugelassen wurden. Vorher war eine Frau in der Hauptbar nur erlaubt, wenn sie eine Prostituierte oder eine Madam war. Daher machten die meisten amerikanischen Frauen zwischen 1920 und 1933 ihre ersten Barerfahrungen in illegalen, geheimen Bars. Die Kombination von amerikanischen Frauen, die gesellig trinken durften, und Hollywoods fortschrittlicher Technologie schuf eine Verherrlichung des Cocktails.

Während der Stummfilmzeit gab es viele saugende Szenen, besonders in Charlie-Chaplin-Filmen. Während der amerikanischen Prohibition wurden Trinkszenen einfach in Ländern angesiedelt, die nicht in der Prohibition waren. In dem Film Caught in a Cabaret von 1914 wird ein Pferdehals bestellt, in dem Film The Idle Class von 1917 wird ein Whiskey and Soda hergestellt, und in dem Film Manhattan von 1928 werden Manhattans betrunken.

Ein 32-Sekunden-Film sollte erwähnt werden. Es war ein Werbefilm mit dem Titel DeWar's—It's Scotch und wurde 1898 auf eine Wand am Herald Square in New York City projiziert. Es ist der erste Spirituosen-Werbespot, der im Film erschien.

Tante Mame

Die zweite Szene des Films ist eine Cocktailparty, und Tante Mame (Rosalind Russell) kommt die Treppe hinunter und spricht darüber, dass jemand mit einer Gallone Gin unterwegs ist. Es gibt eine komplette Szene, in der Patrick (Jan Handzlik) den Gin in einen Glaskrug gießt und den Mann aufklärt: „Rühren, niemals schütteln – es verletzt den Gin.“ Patrick wirbelt dann Wermut in einem Martiniglas herum, gießt ihn aus und gießt dann den gerührten Gin in das Glas. Er serviert es ohne Olive, fragt aber: „Möchtest du eine Olive? Tante Mame sagt, es nimmt zu viel Platz im Getränk ein.“

Andere Getränke, die im Film gesehen und erwähnt werden, sind Mint Juleps, Drambuie und Cognac. Es gibt auch eine Szene, in der Mame einen Spezialcocktail namens „Flaming Mame“ serviert, der in einem großen, konisch geformten Metallglas mit Stiel serviert wird, wobei das Getränk angezündet wird. Kommen Sie September
Dieser Film mit Rock Hudson, Bobby Darin und Sandra Dee war der allererste Film, der auf transkontinentalen und interkontinentalen Flügen gezeigt wurde. Rock Hudson trinkt viel Champagner und es gibt sogar eine Szene mit einem Vogel, der auf dem Rand eines Glases sitzt und sich von Champagner betrinkt. In einer Szene trinkt Rock einen Martini zum Frühstück. Der Diener fragt ihn, ob er noch etwas haben möchte und Rock antwortet, „eine Olive“. Die beste Szene ist, wenn Rock sich um die Bar kümmert und Bobby Darin und seinen Freunden Brandy serviert.
